(Note the owls claw digging into my arm - I am now able to say I've *kinda* been mauled by an owl - Yep)!
This year, I've made more of an effort to make the best of whats around me. When I go abroad I'm so keen to make the most of the short time I have, and thus attempt to squeeze as much sightseeing and history into one trip that I possibly can.
When I realised that I'd been to the capital of Japan more than I've been to the capital of the country that I've lived in for my whole life, I decided that, this year, that had to change, and put bluntly, I need to get out more. The UK has so much to offer and so much to see, yet so much of it is sadly overlooked.
Shuttlworth school of Falconry is a mere half an hour away from me. When I was a child and lived in Sheffield, we had a school assembly in which birds of prey were presented to us - And I was asked if I wanted to hold one. I, at 6 years old, chickened out and regretted it ever since. I'm not sure what took so long to rectify this, but when this popped up on Groupon, me and Dan snapped it right up and got ready for some owl-action! I wasn't too sure what one is meant to wear to such an occasion, but decided to stick to something relatively simple and fuss free, with flapping wings in mind. Can you imagine if I got caught up in a stressed eagle?
I was still nervous for some reason, but managed to pluck up enough courage to hold onto a young 10lb american bald eagle - I never could've anticipated how heavy it was going to be.
Anyway, I'm sharing pictures of this astounding owl that I flew. They really are such majestic creatures, and we learnt so many interesting facts about them amongst plenty of other birds. We also got to dabble in archery, crossbows, shotguns and handguns, ha!
All in all, an amazing day out and something I'd recommend to anyone - Check it out here, and let me know if you decide to go! Next on our England discover list, is the gorgeous city of Bath - I can't believe I've never been!

ReplyDeleteI'd love to do something like this! It sounds like a great day out. I need to explore England more! I've lived near Birmingham for 19 years and then moved to the South East for uni for 3 years but barely went anywhere! Now I'm back in Birmingham I really regret not going to Bournemouth and Brighton and Portsmouth! :(
So jealous you're going to Bath, that's top of my list! x
