As a little birthday treat, my boyfriend and I visited Cambridge for the day. More specifically, we popped into one of my favourite little shops - The Fudge Kitchen. I've never once failed to buy a slice of fudge from here upon a visit to Cambridge, so wanted to introduce my boyfriend to what I think is the best fudge in the world.
Even better, we paid £50 for a 'fudge making experience.' Upon our arrival we were presented with two trays of fudge and told to eat as much as we wanted whilst we were there. Wearing suitable comedy hats and aprons which contributed to the fun, we then proceeded to mix ingredients, stirring them over an old rustic fire to a ridiculously high temperature. When the fudge was hot enough it was poured onto a large marble slab to set for a while. Then the fun started - Folding air into the fudge mix and closer to a log shape as it set. Now, we're all kids inside right? So making a mess is fun. Chocolate induced mess is therefore, incredible! Well, the two of us weren't quick enough so it was pretty fun trying to catch it from running off the side of the table altogether!
Here are a few pictures from our time in the Fudge Kitchen:
Stirring was pure torture, just because I was desperate to dip my finger in and taste it!
Folding the fudge - Disaster zone!
Despite our fudge being thick in some areas and thin in others, I don't think our double chocolate fudge turned out too badly, do you? Omnomnom! (We absolutely didn't get any help from the staff, despite what the pictures tell you) ;)
Before leaving we were presented with a box of any 6 fudge slices to take home (usually £26), as well as 2 slices of the fudge we'd just made (usually around £4.90 each)! We also got some drinking fudge to try, with no regrets. The only problem with drinking fudge is that I doubt I'll ever be able to revert back to powdered hot chocolate, its so yummy! I know that £5 seems ridiculous for one slice of fudge, but its so rich that it will last ages and, well, its just bloomin' gorgeous.
Now the fudge - Let me tell you, is out of this world which is why I've always gone back. You honestly haven't experienced true 'melt in the mouth' texture until you've put a piece of this fudge in your mouth. Its smooth, creamy and real authentic fudge
I'd highly recommend the fudge making experience in Cambridge for something a little different - We had a good laugh with the staff and wished we hadn't eaten lunch prior to visiting so we could take advantage of all the free fudge. Heres their Facebook page if you want to check it out!
Have you visited the Fudge Kitchen before? Whats the best fudge you've ever tried?
